Dinwiddie Health & Rehab Center Employee Awarded Nursing Scholarship
Laurie Ragsdale, CNA, Receives One of Only 25 Scholarships

(Dinwiddie, Virginia) — Laurie Ragsdale, CNA at Dinwiddie Health & Rehab Center, is a recipient of this year’s Regirer Nursing Scholarship from the Commonwealth Long Term Care Foundation.  Ms. Ragsdale plans to further her education with the goal of becoming a Registered Nurse.

In 2021 the Commonwealth Long Term Care Foundation awarded 25 Regirer Nursing Scholarships to individuals employed in long-term care facilities in Virginia. Each recipient will receive $2,000 toward the cost of his or her nursing education. To receive the scholarship, recipients completed an extensive application, were personally interviewed by a member of the foundation’s nurse scholarship committee, and committed to working in a long-term care facility for one year after graduation.

“Laurie Ragsdale is a hard-working Certified Aide that is currently enrolled in an RN program. She has been a PRN but has given significant time to the Center and the needs of the patients. She has been with the building through COVID-19 and continued to sacrifice and serve the Center.” Says Kenneth Byers, Administrator.  “She currently still works with the Center and gives all she can while pursuing her RN degree. We look forward to her growing and staying with Dinwiddie as she grows in her career”.

“With all the pressures of working in long term care today, we are thrilled to offer the Regirer Nursing Scholarships to individuals who are committed to providing the highest level of care and compassion to the residents of Virginia’s nursing and assisted living facilities,” said Keith Hare, President, and CEO of the Virginia Health Care Association and the Virginia Center for Assisted Living (VHCA-VCAL).

The scholarships are named for Walter and Maria Teresa Regirer, members and leaders of VHCA-VCAL who led efforts to improve access to long-term care education for career professionals.  The Regirer Nursing Scholarship Program is designed to promote and support quality of care and to enhance the educational level of nurses currently working in VHCA-VCAL member facilities.
